CRISAL and REGA ENERGY Sign a Long-Term Renewable Gas Supply Agreement
CRISAL, the one-of-a-kind Portuguese glassware producer, and REGA ENERGY, signed a landmark long-term Renewable Gas Supply Agreement. This will contribute to the goal of LCGlass (the international group where CRISAL and its Dutch partner Royal Leerdam are inserted) to become one of the most sustainable glassware producers in Europe. Under this agreement, REGA ENERGY will supply CRISAL’s Marinha Grande manufacturing facility with green hydrogen and green oxygen.
Antoine Jordans, CEO of LCGlass, commented: “LCGlass, supported by its investor Anders Invest, sees this agreement as a major first step towards decarbonizing glass production. The positive support from the Portuguese government and the European Union makes it viable for CRISAL to invest toward this goal. We are looking forward to working together with REGA on this major project.”
Thomas Carrier, CEO of REGA ENERGY, stated: “Made in Portugal” products are a reference for excellence thanks to their quality, competitiveness, traceability, social and supply chain resilience. In Portugal, renewable resources are abundant – wind, sun and hydro make the country’s electricity close to fully renewable: 82% first half of 2024. Here, with our long-term partnership, CRISAL will produce in a more sustainable way, maximising the electrification of its industrial process and consuming REGA’s green hydrogen and green oxygen for the remaining part. We are proud of this collective journey – at REGA ENERGY, our mission is to support many other hard-to- abate industries in Portugal, ultimately delivering with our renewable energy, in order to manufacture some of the most sustainable products in the world. “Made in Portugal. Made sustainable”.
This agreement coincides with CRISAL’s 80th anniversary celebration, marking eight decades of innovation and excellence in the glass industry. Over the years, CRISAL has continuously evolved to meet the market’s needs in a changing world. Now, as part of the decarbonization program, CRISAL is implementing a strong decarbonization strategy supported by Anders Invest and Portugal’s PRR programme. In 2024, CRISAL is setting up a state-of-the-art furnace in Marinha Grande. This unit will increase the electrification of one of CRISAL’s glass melting furnaces up to a maximum of 80%, significantly reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. The remaining natural gas consumption will be gradually replaced by renewable gases supplied by REGA ENERGY.
