Biomethane Series in Jornal de Negócios – Part 2: “Biomethane and Green Hydrogen: The Perfect Symbiosis”

Governments, companies, and citizens are now managing energy as a scarce resource: more than ever, we must question who we depend on for energy supply and what its economic, environmental, and even geostrategic costs are.

In his second opinion piece for Jornal de Negócios, REGA’s Head of Biomethane, Nuno Pinto, argues that biomethane is well-positioned to be a local solution to two major global problems: energy dependency and the climate emergency, through the decarbonization of industry.

In Europe alone, the REPowerEU program aims to multiply the current production of biomethane by 10 by 2030, equivalent to 20% of the gas that Europe imported from Russia before the invasion of Ukraine.

Energy is the common denominator of many topics of national importance: the focus on renewable sources that do not contribute to the planet’s temperature increase due to greenhouse gas emissions is now a priority. Biomethane can help pave the way forward.
