Biomethane Series in Jornal de Negócios – Part 1: “Biomethane, the Fast Track to Better and Greater Decarbonization”

Biomethane can and should play a fundamental role in the energy transition process, particularly in the decarbonization of Portuguese industry.

In the first piece of a series in Jornal de Negocios, REGA’s Head of Biomethane, Nuno Pinto, writes an opinion piece on the needs and advantages of biomethane.

In industries that require high temperatures, biomethane is a fast track to better and greater decarbonization by replacing fossil gas in the non-electrifiable stages of their processes.

The importance of biomethane on the path to decarbonization is now evident at the European level. The REPowerEU plan sets the goal of increasing the current production of biomethane tenfold by 2030.

In Denmark, for example, biomethane accounted for about 30% of the gas distributed in the national grid last year.

Portugal also needs to take action, paving the way for biomethane on this decarbonization journey.
